John F. Hurley, Jr., a thirty-year member of Local 7 (Boston) was appointed general vice president by General President Joseph Hunt on May 15, 2005. Hurley, better known as Jay, has been a great over-achiever throughout his distinctive career. His reputation as an ironworker who gets things done propelled him quickly into Local 7 leadership positions. Hurley began service in his local beginning in 1988 as recording secretary. In 1991, he became president, in 1993 business agent, and in 1997, he assumed the position of business manager.

Offices held in the New England States District Council include financial secretary treasurer, 1995; second vice president, 1992; first vice president, 2001; and New England States District Council President, 2002.

Recognizing Hurley’s leadership ability, General President Hunt appointed him general organizer for the International on December 1, 2001.

Hurley’s talents have added a new dimension to the New England States District Council. The newsletter he publishes and website www.ironworkersdcne.org he developed are first rate. A proven union leader and tremendous asset to this International, Hurley is a valued member of the International Executive Committee.
