Robert J. Spiller was appointed general vice president on October 30, 2000.
Spiller became an ironworker in 1967, when he joined Local Union 3, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as an apprentice. He became very active in the affairs of the local union and when the members recognized his ability they elected him vice president in 1981. Spiller worked as a foreman and a general foreman for many years for erection companies in the Pittsburgh area. And in 1984, he was elected president and served as assistant business agent. In 1985, he became the full-time financial secretary treasurer.
Recognizing his talent as a leader, President West appointed Spiller a general organizer in 1994 to service the Eastern Ohio, Western Pennsylvania and Northern West Virginia area. In July 1995, he was elected president of the district council and is presently serving in that office. Spiller serves on numerous committees and is highly respected by all the crafts in his area.
Spiller was married for thirty years to his lovely wife, Jeanie, who passed away in November 1996. He has two daughters and two grandchildren.
