24th Annual Ironworker Instructor Training Program July 13, 2008

The 24th annual Ironworker Instructor Training Program will be held at the University of San Diego in July of 2008.  Note the following important dates:

  • 9 - 18 July: CWI course (arrive on 8 July)
  • 11 - 12 July: Apprenticeship Coordinators and Directors meeting (arrive on 10 July)
  • All other participants arrive on 12 or 13 July
  • Opening Session on Sunday the 13th at about 4:30PM
  • Annual program 14 - 18 July
  • Closing Session on Friday the 18th at 5:00PM

This year the Coordinator's meeting will include a variety of general and breakout sessions focusing on a number of topics including:

  • Sexual harassment
  • Political action and apprenticeship
  • Survival of the Fittest
  • Coordinator fiduciary responsibilities
  • Electronic presentation technology
  • Successful journeyman upgrading programs
  • Using the new Ironworker training materials
  • American Red Cross First Aid/CPR program for the Ironworkers

Each year the National Training Fund and IMPACT upgrade existing courses and develop new courses for our coordinators and intructors.  This year we are offering several new and revised courses including:

  • How to Teach Blueprint Reading (using the new training package)
  • Teaching Vocational English as a Second Language (VESL)
  • Conveyors and Industrial Maintenance
  • Reading Reinforcing Drawings
  • Structural Steel Erection (using the new training package and will be adding Composites in 2008)

Look for the first mailing in March and sign up early in order to ensure that members from your local are able to enroll in the courses they need.
