The shop department of the Iron Workers organizes and bargains for thousands of employees who work for the approximately 500 employers in the steel fabrication and related industries. Like the rest of the Iron Workers, the shop department operates in both the United States and Canada.
The shop department offers employees as well as their employers the opportunity to participate in the National Shopmen’s Pension Plan, the Canadian National Shopmen’s Pension Plan and a National Health Care Plan managed by IMPACT.
In conjunction with the organizing department, the shop department continuously conducts aggressive campaigns to organize those who need a voice in the workplace so that they will have higher wages, pensions, health plans and greater respect from employers. In addition to local union representation throughout the U.S. and Canada, the Iron Workers have representatives who stand ready to assist unorganized workers in all organizing campaigns. These efforts safeguard the Iron Workers’ jurisdiction while improving the standard of living for the entire membership.
If you’re not currently a member of the Iron Workers, but work in the steel fabrication or related industries, you can apply to have the Iron Workers help you organize your workplace.
