Iron Workers Celebrate White House Task Force on Worker Organizing

May 07, 2021

The International Association of Bridge, Structural, Ornamental and Reinforcing Iron Workers applauds President Joe Biden for establishing the White House Task Force on Worker Organizing and Empowerment.

As a union in the construction and fabrication sector, the Iron Workers see that workers face many barriers to exercise their right to join a union. Low-road companies in the industry do everything they can to deny employees their rights. The federal government must act as a protector for workers and must coordinate its many sections and agencies to succeed.

President Biden has been a strong advocate for the federal government’s responsibility to encourage collective bargaining. His actions in office reinforce his commitment to fight for people’s rights in the workforce. The administration’s legislative initiatives and executive actions have all been crafted with an eye toward boosting American unions.

The Task Force is a necessary tool to coordinate the raft of pro-worker actions across executive agencies. It will provide a top-level forum for new ideas in organizing. Finally, it is another signal of how close President Biden holds his relationship with labor and unions’ role in American society.
